A member of the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Fernie Alpine Resort is part of the Lizard Range in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia and is famous for its legendary snow. Fernie has been known to get as much as 1,118 cm of powder (average is 8.8 m or 29 feet) and at Fernie, they know how to celebrate it. There are 113 trails ranging from beginner to expert and spread over 2,504 acres of alpine skiing or snowboarding. You’ll find 5 huge alpine bowls as well as chutes and heavy trees. The longest run, “The Falling Star” is 5km long. If you’re into it, check out the rail park. Fernie has added a little variety and challenge to the terrain park with the addition of several new boxes and rails as well as bringing back the popular 24′ mail box, the House Box and Kink Boxes from past years. Fernie has a ski-in-ski-out village you can stay in. You’ll enjoy all the amenities and get an early start the next day.
Fernie celebrates the legend of the Griz every February, with a week of festivities paying tribute to their legendary snow hero. You’ll also hear the legendary stories of the curse-bearing Ghostrider who appears in the shadows of Mount Hosmer and dates back to the origins of this turn-of-the-century coal mining town. Ask around-the locals of this town love to share its stories. Fernie has great conditions, a great facility and all the amenities you could ask for.
