Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is a huge resort with 2750 acres of skiable terrain, only 2.5 hours west of Calgary, next to the Rockies in the dogtooth range of the Purcell Mountains. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was the first all-season resort to open in the Rockies in 25 years, but as we do best at Ski-Resorts.ca, we’re going to focus on the white season! Kicking Horse is surrounded by six National Parks including Banff, Glacier, Kootenay, Yoho, Mt. Revelstoke and Jasper.
Kicking Horse has a real hard-core reputation, but of the 106 marked runs, there are about 40% for beginner and intermediate level skiers, with the balance for advanced and expert level skiers. The reputation comes from the terrain in the upperzones where you’ll find lots of ridge drop-ins and powder-filled bowls. The back country here is for the truly adventurous.
Additionally, Kicking Horse has all of the amenities you could want including ski/snowboard school, avalanche and big mountain training and interestingly boasts the highest elevation restaurant, the Eagle’s Eye at 2350m.
