Being a little less touristy than Banff, Jasper’s Marmot Basin is a ski destination that won’t disappoint. It is part of Jasper National Park and skiers enjoy all that comes with the Park including the incredible scenery. Only 20 minutes from the town of Jasper, Marmot Basin offers 3,000 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding across 1,675 acres of slopes. There are 86 marked trails, nicely varied and split evenly between easy, intermediate and advanced so that groups of skiers or snowboarders with different levels of ability can still explore the mountain together. There is something for everyone, but the more challenging zones are found higher up. Marmot Basin is a little more off the tourist track and as such the atmosphere is less crowded and you’ll find no waiting at the lift lines. Another distinct advantage to the ski traveler is that winter is off-season in Marmot Basin, so it is cheaper to get to for a ski vacation than many of the other ski resorts. Marmot Basin’s 4 distinct areas of the mountain are laid out in a way such that you can get from one type of run to another in only one or two rides up. If you are looking for the glades, you’ll find them fast. If you crave the steeper side of things, it’s only a short ride up to the next hill. If you’re really looking for the back country experience, Marmot Basin is definitely your place to be. They have four gates that access the deep Athabasca range and they expect to have more hike to expert terrain open if conditions allow for it.

A little harder to get to than the Banff resorts. As a result it gets less traffic and the lift lines are a breeze. Super hill, excellent steeps and sometimes moguls.
Been a number of times, temperatures can get pretty low but the hill is great. Some great off track stuff as well. I recommend it.
